VOGUE Visionary

Vogue has gotten with the program—the Magazine featured Obama on a Special Issue entitled “Visionaries.” First and foremost, kudos to Vogue Magazine for doing the damn thing! First they had Black Vogue Italia and now Obama on the cover of Men’s Vogue. In the words of Melissa, it “looks like Vogue does realize the earth has other people besides…stick figures.” Amen to that! Can't wait to receive the hard copy to see what the article on Obama is about. Yes to PROGRESS!

I'm Ready for Aunt Jemima because Uncle Sam is Tripping!!!

Uncle Sam would be the government, people! The government is triflin' (sp?)!! So I'm pretty sure the majority of folks have found out that WaMu is now JP Morgan Chase, the Feds are officially the "Captain Save a Hos" of big business-- they now own AIG, and even in the health sector-- the federal agencies are slacking!! Yes, ladies and gentleman, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has join the ranks of traveshamockery!

The EPA refuses to formally recognize/set a national standard for the amount of perchlorate allowed in drinking water. For those who don't know, studies have shown that raised perchlorate amounts can interfere with thyroid function and pose developmental health risks, especially for the childrens and fetuses!! Ahhh!! So EPA, what the hell is the hold up? I'm saying, I'm tired of the Feds doing some back-handed bullshiznit!

I'm moving to England.

Why I still Want to be Like Michelle

My current facebook profile pic is one of Michelle Obama and one of my male co-workers said in a joking matter, " I like your profile pic." Another one laughed after I told them she is a role model to me and someone who I can look to for motivation and inspiration. The same guy who joked about the picture said, "Why, she hasn't done anything." Well guys, here's a few reasons why I look up to her:

She grew up in the South Side of Chicago to a father that was a city water plant employee and mother that was secretary (she didn't grow up living the "good life")

Went to Princeton and graduated Cum Laude ( Black Ivy Leaguers, it should be a Facebook group)

Wrote a thesis entitled "Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community" (you better get it girl!)

Got her J.D. from Harvard and protested for hiring of more minority professors ( did not forget where she came from!)
She was Executive Director for the Chicago office of Public Allies, a non-profit organization encouraging young people to work on social issues in nonprofit groups and government agencies (empowering the future of America)

She served as Associate Dean of Student Services at the University of Chicago and she developed the University's Community Service Center (developing outlets for other people to give back to the community)

Worked as Vice President for Community and External Affairs at the University of Chicago hospital, but decided to do part-time so she could spend time with her kids (balanced a career and home)

She made almost $1 million dollars last year and still wear $148 dollar Black House/White Market dresses ( this chick is frugal and fly, what's not to love?)

Married a FINE successful black brother!!!

This woman has the game on lock; time for all my sisters get on that grid and get on Michelle's level.

The Truth about Palin...

She’s WHACK! Seriously. I gave an honest attempt to give her the benefit of the doubt, tried to identify with her as an American woman, even attempted to remain unbiased in spite of my strong support of the Obama campaign. The boring hockey mom speech at the RNC sent me over the edge. I swear she stole Michelle’s speech outline, substituted a few words, and made a weak attempt to regurgitate the same points brought to light by Michelle a little over a week ago. I’m still trying to figure out what was so “electrifying’ about Palin’s speech. One thing’s for sure, I am not surprised that McCain chose her as his running mate. They both share the same idiotic, jaded, visions of American life. Sarah Palin needs to fire her speech writer—the speech she gave at the RNC was God awful. I am still trying to figure out what CNN and the Associated Press find so “moving” about her speech. She spent more time making ridiculous attacks against the Obama campaign than reveal to the American public what her intentions as a Vice President would be. Sorry honey, hating on the other side gets you nowhere—just ask Hillary, ouch!

Sarah Palin is claiming that Obama’s supporters are behind the spread of “misinformation and flat-out lies” regarding her family life. I’m not sure what misinformation she’s referencing, but is it not true that your daughter (teen) is pregnant. Is it not true that she’s under the legal drinking age and has PUBLICIZED photos of her alcoholic binges on myspace? Hmm. Don’t blame the democrats. The truth of the matter is, no one cares about your family life. I’m with Obama when he says “family is off limits” in presidential debates. Palin needs to be mad at her daughter for not deleting her myspace/facebook/blackplanet page after McCain selected her as a Vice Presidential candidate. For real! You already know the media harps on any loophole it can find!

I think the underlying truth is Palin does not know what to talk about, let alone what the pressing issues are. She’s steady trying to separate Alaska from the Union, downplaying Obama’s responsibility as an avid community organizer, and painting a self-image to the American public as a hockey mom. That’s great—being a hockey mom and all. Too bad I’m not (nor do I think the American public is) looking for a hockey mom to secure the position of Vice President. I’m going to need for Palin to seize impudent comments regarding the Obama-Biden ticket.

Palin bores me. Hell, McCain should have had his wife, Cindy, elected as his running mate. Her botox-infused lips/eyebrows seem more exciting than anything Sarah Palin has had to offer thus far.

Ludacris' "Rapping" has the critics yapping!

First and foremost America, freedom of speech is definitely a constitutional right. Now, with that said, why in the world are people placing blame on Obama for Ludacris’ new song that celebrates the nomination of Obama and expresses his discontent with the Bush Jr. Administration? I mean after all, Bush is barely touching the 30% approval rate amongst the citizens of his dear country. So shitting on Bush isn’t that uncommon.

So now, all of the conservatives and pissed-off Republicans are jumping on the “let’s try and de-moralize Obama” train by questioning Obama’s opinions on Ludacris’ new song. I guess the hoopla is because earlier Obama mentioned that he liked hip hop and allegedly claimed Ludacris to be one of his favorite rappers. So what? I mean, I’m in love with Nas and Lil Wayne but it’s not like I advocate for folks to start selling coke in the streets or take part in that special alcoholic beverage known as “cough syrup” just because Weezy F. Baby raps about it. He’s a grown man! Just like Ludacris—he’s a grown man. He’s allowed to have his own opinions and talk his own mess. I mean everyone else does it. As a matter of fact, it wasn’t quite long ago when the ill-advised New Yorker decided to depict a racist/rude/elitist caricature of the Obama family as a terrorist/militant family on the cover of their issue. Hmm, I don’t recall this much of a public uproar? Oh, that’s right! We live in a double-standard, racist, try-to-do-anything-to-bring-the-black-family-down, society that would do anything to discredit a person of color making progress and igniting a spirit of hope among people!

Did the American public forget that Obama grew up in the Southside of Chicago? I mean come on, we all know hip hop is an essential element in the hood!

I’m not upset. Slightly amused. Amused because critics and conservatives questioned Obama on whether or not he liked the song. His response was no. I mean, did you expect the man to really be like “yeah, that’s my sh!t.” Obama is not slow; after all, the man is a recipient of a Harvard University education! I’m even more amused that the links to Obama and this rap song are surfacing at the same time that rumors regarding Republican Vice President Candidate, Sarah Palin’s daughter, are pregnant—she’s only 16. So once again, Obama-haters, bitter Hillary supporters and the traveshamockery (you like that?) have tried to divert attention to something other than the real issue at hand: a vice presidential nominee who wants to control the issues on a national agenda but has yet to conquer the skill of taking care of the domestic issues going on in her home.

I Wanna Be Like Michelle

I have never really watched the Democratic National Convention until this year, but I have enjoyed what I have seen so far. Two of the best speeches of the convention so far were given by women. Hilary Clinton and Michelle Obama are two completely different women, but they both know how to captivate an audience. During Michelle's speech, Fade called me and said, "I want to be like Michelle Obama when I grow-up." I think Fade put it nicely when she explained; Michelle Obama is poised, strong, beautiful, and loves her family! It does not get any better than that! Her speech was nice but you can tell her PR people told her she needs to show off her more gentle side because people perceive her as being too militant. It was nice to see the softer side of her.

Even though it sounds like a Sears campaign ad; we are getting to see the softer side of Michelle and we're loving every minute of it.
